Season's Greetings from the SASPAC team!

SASPAC v8.50 coming soon!
We are currently in the final stages of software testing and expect to release the next version of SASPAC in early 2008. v8.50 incorporates a number of new features including: a Google MapsTM
interface, Google EarthTM  export tool, improved data searching facilities and updated user manual and documentation. If you have any queries about this release please do not hesitate to contact the helpdesk.

SASPAC Mashups!
The latest version of Mapshore, SASPAC's integrated GIS package, has been enhanced to allow users to view images, such as thematic maps, in Google's virtual globe application. Mapshore exports your map in either a raster or vector format (.kmz) that can then be viewed in Google EarthTM. Google EarthTM
combines satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings of the globe and is freely available from here. Since its launch, web users have been adding their own content to Google EarthTM as overlay files - a term described as a 'Mashup' - so you now have the ability to create your own Mashups using SASPAC!. If you would like a pre-release version of Mapshore that includes this facility please contact the helpdesk.

SASPAC's Google MapsTM Interface
The SASPAC team have developed a new interface with Google's popular free web mapping application (http://maps.google.co.uk/). To be launched with SASPAC v8.50, this facility will allow users to search for geographic locations using postcodes or place names in Google MapsTM. These are then translated into a grid reference, a search area is defined and the Output Areas that fall within this area can be selected and visualised on a Google Map (as shown in the image to the right).

New GeoWise Web Publishing tool is coming!
Geowise are currently working on a new and improved Web Publisher for SASPAC. This will replicate the capabilities of their InstantAtlas software, which supports contextual and background geographies (e.g. raster maps), Flash and SVG pages as well as improved data table and legend facilities. Please visit the InstantAtlas website (http://www.instantatlas.com/) for a preview of web pages similar to those SASPAC will be able to produce. SASPAC users will also have the opportunity to upgrade to InstantAtlas' Designer and Style Editor and to purchase additional templates at a discounted rate. More details to follow in the New Year.
